| The Canadian New Media Awards include twelve categories that will
highlight the world-class skills and resources of those involved
in the Canadian new media industry.
 |
What is an industry without a vision? Or a vision without a
visionary! The New Media Visionary Award will recognize the
one individual who has been most instrumental in defining --and
redefining -- the direction of the Canadian new media industry.
The category is open to anyone who has consistently demonstrated
initiative, creativity and leadership over the past several
years. |
 |
An outsider might wonder how we could recognize a lifetime of
achievement in such a 'new' industry, but of course this is
hardly a new medium. In fact this award will take into consideration
the entire scope of new media disciplines, including Interactive
Kiosks, CD-ROM, DVD and the Internet. The Lifetime Achievement
will be awarded to the individual who has built up an exemplary
body of work during the last 15 years. |
 |
Without the skills and enthusiasm of knowledgeable
educators, who will train the next generation of new media creators?
The Educator of the Year will be awarded to the teacher, trainer
or administrator who has actively promoted new media in the
classroom or in the workplace. |
 |
It is one thing to preach to the converted, but for the message
to be heard outside the confines of the close-knit new media
industry, a voice must be blessed with a masterful blend of
skill and determination. The Industry Advocate of the Year will
be awarded to the person who has done the most to encourage
the new media industry in Canada in 2002. |
 |
|
They have a vision, a two-year game-plan, a team of enthusiastic
stars and a regulation-sized pool table. Now all they have
to do is rise above the fray and make their mark. They are
the Most Promising New Company of the Year, the "up and coming"
company of 2002. Entrants must be based in Canada and have
been in business less than two years. Companies must also
have shown significant growth in one or more of the following
areas: finances, product or service development, marketing,
etc.
|
 |
The end result is the product. It either flies or it doesn't.
And it is the producer who gently guides the project from the
first brainstorming meeting to the gala launch. Producer of
the Year will be awarded to the producer who has developed an
outstanding new media product (CD-ROM, Internet, DVD, etc.)
by using technology in new and innovative ways. |
 |
Of the hundreds of Canadian new media companies, only one will
receive the coveted Company of the Year Award. This category
is open to Canadian new media companies that have consistently
demonstrated business acumen and a dedication to the growth
and/or reputation of the Canadian new media industry. It goes
without saying that the competition among these high achievers
will be very fierce indeed! |
 |
The next generation is waiting in the wings and they are raring
to go. Their ideas and spirit will help to reshape the new media
industry. The Graduate of the Year will be awarded to the student
who has the best combined academic record and volunteerism spirit
in the new media industry. |
 |
Of course, it is always an honour just to be nominated,
but in this category the honour is surely multiplied ten-fold.
The Volunteer of the Year will be awarded to the individual
who has made a material contribution to the growth and/or reputation
of the Canadian new media industry through their volunteer work.
The category is open to anyone no matter their age or length
of experience in the industry. |
 |
Where would the new media industry be without designers? These individuals
use their visual skills to immerse people in a compelling new media environment.
The Designer of the Year will recognize the individual who creates new ways to
communicate and in doing so, raises the design standards of the medium. |
 |
Orientations, internships, training, profit-sharing, lunch-and-learns,
and bring-your-pet-to-work days. Never have these
activities or incentives been so abundant, and nowhere is this more
pronounced than in the new media industry. The Employer of the Year will
recognize the
company that best motivates, values and rewards the talents and skills of
its staff. |
 |
|
The Programmer of the Year will celebrate the individual who
thinks beyond zeros and ones. This award will be given to the coder who
best applies creative, analytical and problem-solving skills to meet project
objectives and create a better end-user experience in the new media.
